The main attraction of an open fire is simply its visual appeal. Many homeowners will insist on having an open fireplace, but with this comes some drawbacks:

  • Down or up draughts
  • Heat being sucked out of the house even when there is no fire lighting
  • Sooty hailstones / rain landing on the living room hearths / carpets / rugs
  • Loud whistling noises

Reduce Negative Effects Today!

Draught proofing your chimney is one of the most inexpensive ways to reduce heat loss in the home.  There are 2 ways of doing this, depending on how often you use your fireplace.  If you use your fireplace on a minimal basis then a chimney balloon would be more cost effective, however if it is used on a more regular basis, a chimney draught excluder would be beneficial.

Chimney Draught Excluder

Advantages of this feature include:

  • There is no mess and a simple spring operates the damper
  • The only visable mechanism is the spring
  • Excludes draughts
  • Conserves heat
  • Stops howling wind noises
  • Reduces Co2 emissions
  • Payback within months

Burning unseasoned wood and/or turf leaves behind a soot type substance in the chimney system. This is due to the higher level of moisture in turf.  This residue is called creosote and has a tar like appearance.  It is highly flammable and if you had the misfortune of  witnessing a chimney fire you simply close the damper and the oxygen to the chimney fire is cut off.

A chimney is designed to expel combustion gases.  As the wind passes over the chimey pot at roof level, it curls over.  This curling motion creates both positive and negative air pressure, which coupled with the length of the chimney flue, literally creates a vacuum.  The problem is that the chimney works 27 hours, 7 days a week. This product effectively seals off the chimney flue and regulates the chimney.

With the damper in place you simply close off the chimney flue when ther is no fire on.  This will eliminate any howling wind noises, hailstones, rain and draughts entering or leaving your sitting room.  You can open the flue when you wish to light a fire and close it again once the fire is fully extinguished.

According to Duncan Stewart (about the house) at this years Dream Homes Exibition in the D4 Hotels, this is a “great product, every home should have one”.

Chimney Balloon

The chimney balloon is very effective mainly because of one simple principle, that is, warm air rises while cold air sinks.  A chimney balloon keeps cold air from entering the room through the chimney and warm air from escaping through the chimney.

Chimney balloons will stay in place for years and stay inflated.  It provides essential ‘double glazing’ for your chimney.  When you wish to light a fire you can simply deflate it and re-inflate it once the fire is fully extinguished.

All of the above advantages also apply to this product.
